How to Cleanse Your Face

Thorough and gentle facial cleansing is important. We will tell you here how to cleanse your face effectively and carefully with the right products.

The skin on the face is much thinner than on other parts of the body, which makes it more susceptible to damage. The basic prerequisite for beautiful skin is therefore a thorough facial cleansing and care that is tailored to the skin.

Facial cleansing should always be part of your daily skincare routine, especially if your skin tends to become oily and impure quickly. In this way, general inflammation, irritation, or skin diseases such as acne are avoided and radiantly beautiful skin is revealed.

Which facial cleansing is suitable for which skin type?

Before you start with your facial cleansing, it is important that you adapt the facial care products to your skin type.

Facial cleansing for impure and oily skin

Sweat, dirt, and make-up clog our pores in the face during the day. The hormone balance or diet are further causes of annoying impurities. With a suitable facial cleansing, you can optimally counteract this.

When cleansing your face, use oil-free and non-greasy products. The products should reduce sebum production, remove excess fat, calm the skin cells and relieve inflammation. Alternatively, antibacterial washing gels and foaming washing creams are also suitable for daily facial cleansing.

If your skin is dry and impure at the same time, a particularly mild facial cleansing helps against impure skin. At best, it should be pH-neutral; a value of 5.5 is optimal.

Under no circumstances should you use products containing soap in your facial cleansing. These have an alkaline effect on the skin, disturb the natural acid mantle, and cause even more pimples.

Facial cleansing for dry and sensitive skin

Care should be taken with dry and sensitive skin, the wrong product can quickly cause irritation and redness on the face. Your face needs both oil and moisture. A rich, nourishing cleansing gel or milk without perfume, fragrances, or alcohol, but pH-neutral, with nourishing vegetable oils or thermal water, is ideal. The cleansing milk should be moisturizing so that it replaces the missing skin fat.

An alcohol-free lotion is also suitable. Peelings should only be used once a month as additional facial cleansing.

Facial cleansing for combination skin

Combination skin makes special demands on facial cleansing and care. Some areas of skin are oily and prone to impurities, while others are sensitive and dry. A product that moisturizes but does not grease is needed. If you choose a pH-neutral facial cleanser that moisturizes your skin and is gentle, you are on the right track.

A cleansing gel with aloe vera, for example, is recommended. However, you should avoid using products containing oil when cleansing your face.

Apply masks and peelings for oily skin regularly, but avoid sensitive and dry areas to avoid irritation and redness.

Facial cleansing for normal skin

Having normal skin makes cleaning and care much more relaxed. Mild cleansing milk or a gentle washing gel are well suited for facial cleansing with normal skin.

Treat yourself once a week to a light peeling or cleansing with a facial cleansing brush. The brush cleanses your skin particularly gently and leaves it radiant.

Facial cleansing for mature skin

Mature skin requires extra care, as the production of skin fat by the sebaceous glands decreases from year to year, and the skin’s ability to retain and store moisture decreases. The products used for facial cleansing should not degrease too much and should not reduce the natural moisture.

Therefore, when cleaning the face, use products that have wash-active substances of less than 15 percent and are equipped with caring ingredients.

Strongly effective products with high foam activity should be avoided if possible.

Facial cleansing yes, but only in moderation

Don’t be too meticulous about your face cleansing and don’t overdo it, because it can quickly have a negative effect on your body – cleansing means stress for the skin.

If you do not wear make-up on your face, water without any care product is perfectly sufficient for facial cleansing.
If you have applied make-up, light powder, or other beauty products to your face, you should do a facial cleansing before going to bed at the latest. Make-up residues can irritate the skin, clog the pores and lead to pimples. You can counteract this with facial cleansing.

Masks, peelings, and Co.

Peelings with rounded microspheres gently remove the (wintery) grey haze from loose horny scales and let the skin shimmer rosy again (use once a week for dry skin, two to three times a week for oily skin). Gentle to sensitive skin: soft exfoliating enzymes.

Be careful when removing make-up!

When removing make-up, do not rub back and forth, but loosen the ink as gently as possible. Otherwise, the lashes will break and the sensitive skin will be pulled. If you have sensitive eyes, do not use products containing oil. Oils can irritate the conjunctiva – this is particularly unpleasant for contact lens wearers.

Cleansing masks

Cleansing masks exfoliate and care at the same time: microspheres increase the blood circulation when applied, enzymes and fruit acids loosen flaky skin. Green tea soothes dry skin during the application time. Impure skin is clarified with fango, clay, or sandalwood clay: fango and clay absorb excess oil, and sandalwood tightens the pores. If menthol is also added, the mask quickly freshens the skin, and algae help to retain moisture. After drying (takes about three to ten minutes), these masks are washed off with lukewarm water or removed with moist absorbent cotton pads. So-called peel-off masks form an elastic film on the skin as they dry and are removed together with the horny scales like a second skin.

Facial toner – yes or no?

You do not necessarily need a facial tonic. If you use one, it should be without alcohol. Then apply a high-fat cream (water-in-oil emulsion) that keeps the moisture in the skin. If you prefer to use a lighter cream, it should contain glycerin or hyaluronic acid, both of which can also bind water in the skin. If you already have a feeling of tension two or three hours later, you should immediately switch to a richer cream.
